Meet in the County Hotel, No 9 Botchergate
Continuing to celebrate 175 years since the station opened on the 1st of September and the booking office issued the first ticket on the 10th of September 1847. This year we will also be celebrating the 50th year of the Carlisle Power Signal Box which enabled the electrification of the line and the arrival of electric locomotives. A power point presentation will be given in the County Hotel. We will then walk across the road to the railway station to begin the tour. Looking for evidence of changes, listening to stories of interesting events and quiet heroes. We will also be on the platforms, and in the undercroft. Wear warm, waterproof clothing to be comfortable. We will be using some steps and the lifts.
