Brantwood
An historic house, extensive gardens, museum and vibrant centre for the arts, Ruskin’s former home has a wealth of things to see and do for the whole family. Brantwood, and the gardens he laid out around the house, offer a fascinating insight into the world of John Ruskin and the last 28 years of his life spent in the Lakes. Filled with many fine paintings, beautiful furniture and Ruskin’s personal treasures, the house retains the character of its famous resident. Visitors are free to explore the rooms and house stewards are on hand to answer questions. Children admission is free.
The Terrace Cafe
Situated in Brantwood’s former coach house, The Terrace offers a unique combination of sublime scenery, cultural heritage, and casual coffee house culture. Our menu presents a variety of creative and seasonal dishes including hot lunches, salads and specials, served by our bright and attentive team.
Cakes, scones and savoury baked goods are available all day, alongside barista coffee and tea. We also offer a range of local beers, cocktails, gins and soft drinks. Our popular lunch menu is available from 12pm until 3pm, and changes with the seasons. Well behaved dogs welcome.
